Local Area Overview
Clabber Girl Museum - We all miss the smell of Clabber Girl baking powder in the morning—just a touch would add so much flare to that batch of Danishes. And while the beloved Clabber Girl baking powder may now be a thing of the past, its memory is revived daily in Terre Haute, along with the entire history of the Clabber Girl family food business.
Indiana State University - Most people know that Larry Bird was the coolest pre-Michael Jordan basketball player in the universe (no disrespect to Magic) and that he excelled in the NBA as a Boston Celtic. What some of those people don’t know, however, is that Indiana State, in Terre Haute, is where Bird lead the Sycamores to several years of NCAA prominence.
Wabash River - Not only is the Wabash the largest northern tributary of the great Ohio River (sigh), but it also holds the prestigious title of Indiana’s Official State River—and as if that weren’t enough to put on a river resume’, Paul Dresser’s state anthem, “On the Banks of the Wabash, Far Away”, is practically a tribute to the body of water. Way to go, Wabash.
Sheldon Swope Art Museum - Sheldon Swope’s art museum has a concise and noble mission statement, which we will aptly reward by quoting it in this Text—“The Sheldon Swope Art Museum exists to collect, preserve, exhibit, and interpret the best of American art, with special emphasis on painting and sculpture of the first half of the twentieth century and on Wabash Valley artists past and present.” Word.
