Local Area

Dentzel Carousel

Manufactured in 1896 by Gustav Dentzel, the carousel was created for the 1904 St. Louis Exposition and arrived in Meridian in 1909. The carousel, now a National Landmark, has occupied the same location in Highland Park since 1909.

Meridian Downtown Historic District

Created in downtown Meridian in 1979, the historic area contains Union Station, General Supply Co., Terminal Hotel and the Soulé Steam Feed complex. The district covers 80 acres from the railroad tracks north to 6th Street and between 18th and 26th Avenues.

Jimmie Rodgers Memorial Museum

The “Father of Country Music,” Jimmie Rodgers was born in Meridian in 1897. Explore more about his life and his music at the museum, which offers tours and a gift shop with music, movies, books, songbooks and apparel.

Mississippi State University Riley Center

A performing arts, conference and education center, the MSU Riley Center opened its doors in 2006 after a major restoration. Located in historic downtown Meridian, the center offers artistic, cultural and educational experiences.
