Historic renovation of Pittsburgh’s Federal Reserve Bank building draws near, general manager named

Renovation of Drury Hotels Company’s first property in Pennsylvania, a historic renovation of the Federal Reserve Bank building in Pittsburgh, is close to completion and is scheduled to welcome guests Feb. 23, 2017.

The space for the new hotel, the Drury Plaza Hotel Pittsburgh Downtown, has taken two years to renovate and preserve and it will feature 207 guest rooms and more than 4,500 square feet of event and meeting space. The property is located at 745 Grant Street.

As the hotel readies for guests, Christopher Park has been named the property’s general manager. Park spent the past 14 years in the hotel industry, most recently as the director of revenue management at the Hyatt Regency Pittsburgh International Airport. Park is a graduate of James Madison University, where he received a bachelor’s degree in hospitality and tourism management.

“Christopher is a seasoned veteran in the hotel industry and brings great enthusiasm and attention to detail to the position of general manager,” said Chuck Drury, president and CEO of Drury Hotels. “We are fortunate to have someone with Christopher’s background and experience managing this unique property.”

Designed by prominent Cleveland architecture firm Walker and Weeks, the seven-story Art Deco building located on Grant Street in the heart of downtown Pittsburgh first opened in 1931 to house the Pittsburgh branch of the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland. In 1958, a 10-story expansion was added to the building. The Federal Reserve Bank occupied the building until 2012.

Special care was taken to maintain as many of the historic details of the property as possible. The former main banking room now houses a portion of the hotel’s public space and dining area. Additionally, two basement bank vaults have been converted into meeting rooms, and the building’s former firing range on the eighth floor has been converted into an indoor swimming pool.

Once opened, the hotel will offer guests a wide range of complimentary amenities, including:
